The Old Mineola Hotel in Fox LakeBuilt by the same architect that built the Grand on Mackinac Island, at around the same time. The Mineola was the playground of prohibition era mobsters like Al Capone.
The last Hotel guest stayed in 1963. Banquets were held out of the hotel until a few years ago. But now, sadly, only a tiny dive bar runs out of the formerly majestic hotel. Until it collapses, the Mineola is the largest wood building in Illinois.
It should be the shinning star of Lake County, a tourist attraction for thousands every year, a focal point for fun and adventure on the chain o lakes. But sadly, its just a ruin now.
